Thank You for 25 Years!

This past weekend, Community of Faith celebrated 25 years of faithful ministry through our Food Pantry! On Friday night, the front lawn at the church looked a bit like how I imagine the Kingdom of God will look -- people of all ages, languages, nationalities, and experiences laughing and playing together, and enjoying a delicious meal! On Sunday, we worshipped together and took a moment to thank God for his provision and generosity We remembered where we've been -- our humble beginnings in a simple closet and the willingness of a handful of folks who wanted to feed those who were hungry in our community. We listened to several testimonies that reminded us of the impact of the Food Pantry to change lives -- ours and our neighbors. Then, we stayed after worship and continued to ponder where God might lead us next as we considered the changing landscape of food insecurity across the region and the lasting influence of the pandemic as many try to regain stable footing economically.

Throughout the weekend, I kept coming back to Jesus' parable of the talents that reminds us to daily step out in faith and be bold for God. We do this because we take seriously the Lord's commission to invest his resources wisely and to multiply what has been entrusted to us.  When we do this, like the servants in the parable, we will hear the Lord say to us, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" Certainly, when God asks us what we've done with the food, volunteers, and ministry as a whole, we'll be able to show that the ministry has multiplied time and again! We cannot take credit for this abundance, but we can be proud that we have been a part of the story as it unfolds. Surely, God will entrust us with even greater responsibilities in the years ahead. Let us not be surprised when God says to us, "You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let's celebrate together! To God be the glory!
