Greetings brothers and sisters.
Today I'd like to share with you my thoughts about foundations that we build our houses on and that we build our lives on.
Are we building on solid rock? Or on flimsy sand?
This was a subject of an Adult Sunday School class one Sunday. For a while, I forgot about it, but after a few days, an image came to me about a foundation. An image of a sturdy, concrete slab. Solid. And I'm planted in the middle of it. I'm in the center of it and I'm not to the side of it, to the left or to the right side. Instead, I'm planted in the middle.
This tells me that I should not be double-minded or wavering about my thoughts, about my beliefs, but I should be planted on something that's solid. So, this gives me pause. And I asked myself again, “Where am I putting my valuable resources? My time, my energy, and my financial resources?” Am I investing these things in something eternal or in things of this world?
So, this is just a simple thought that I'd like to leave with you also to ponder on tonight. Are we thinking about and investing our treasures on things that will last eternally or on things that are just flimsy and that will just blow up in smoke?
Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and my insights with you. I hope that it will resonate with you somehow, in some meaningful way.
And let me also leave with you this blessing, which is from Numbers 6:24-26:
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen.
Questions for Reflection:
- What foundation am I building my life upon?
- Has there ever been a time when God asked you to give, and you were afraid to share? What keeps you from being generous?
- What is the tie between faith and generosity? In what area (time, talent, gifts, finances, etc.) of your life is God calling you to build on the foundation of faith?
